ChallengeThe Challenge!
The mail
Following Per's emails, I would like to issue a challenge :-): This is the definition of "social informatics" that appears at the RKCSI site:
"Social Informatics (SI) refers to the body of research and study that examines social aspects of computerization, including the roles of information technology in social and organizational change, the uses of information technologies in social contexts, and the ways that the social organization of information technologies is influenced by social forces and social practices."
Does this definition continue to be useful for the 21st century? Does this definition need revision? Does it reflect what SI is? Is it a useful or not useful working definition?
If you answer "Yes" to any of these questions, let's continue this listserv discussion with ideas about how to make SI understandable so it will become part of the vernacular of the 21st century.
Thank you, everyone, very much.
Regards, ------------------------------------------------------------------ Alice Robbin, Associate Professor School of Library & Information Science Director, Rob Kling Center for Social Informatics Indiana University Bloomington
The task
Are you interested in Social Informatics? Are you a lecturer in Social Informatics? If so enlist on the listserv of The Rob Kling Center and contribute to the development of SI! Do you take the challenge?
You are also encouraged to put your name forward on the People Worldwide list. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
